Chaneblog: Be Patient

Chaneblog: Be Patient

What's good everyone, I hope all is well. This blog is going to be about being patient and waiting for things to fall in place. Everything happens for a reason. I definitely believe that moniker. I was waiting for a video that I shot about a year ago to be finished and it finally is. The vid looks amazing and of course its going to blast off Po's show so stay tuned. This would actually be the lead single of the third album which most likely be released towards the end of the year. Talk about planning ahead huh! Well you have to. I realize you must stay one step ahead of the competition. Not only that but you must be awake when the others are sleeping as well. I work til the wee hours of the nite on my laptop after working a graveyard shift job that pays my bills. It was Denzel Washington who eloquently put it" You do what you gotta do, to do what you wanna do". That sums things up in a nutshell for me because that describes exactly what I am going thru at this very moment. The second album is called Chanemusick and the album is so 90's, but the floe is so Chanes! It will be released real soon as well on Itunes and Amazon.com as well. At the moment we are just finishing up on some last minutes and incidentals for the album. Well I'm exhausted on this ride home to the borough of Brooklyn. Ya'll be safe and well. Signing off with another Blackberry blog! Uno!

DJ WHOO KID VS. JAY-Z "CAMELGATE" **RadioPlanet.tv**

The “Camelgate” scandal began in June 2009, as Jay-Z called out various DJ’s and artists on his diss track “DOA (Death of Autotune)”, and Shade 45’s DJ Whoo Kid and DJ Mandog heard this:

Stop your blood clot crying
The kid the dog everybody dying
No lyin, your n*ggas’ jeans too tight
Your colors too bright, your voice too light
~ Jay-Z “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)”

Now, all the way from the sands of Morocco, DJ Whoo Kid responds. This is “Camelgate (Jockin Jay-Z).”

DJ Whoo Kid vs Crazy Legs Dance Battle *RadioPlanet.tv*

In preparation for this week’s Rock Steady Crew 32nd Anniversary Celebration (July 22-26), DJ Whoo Kid met legendary B-boy Crazy Legs at 320 Studios in New York for a battle that will surely go down in history! Whether or not it’s good history is yet to be determined, but you won’t soon forget this one!!

Watch as Whoo Kid pits his dance prowess against Crazy Legs and Step Up 2 The Streets star Mari Koda. Witness the [literally] groundbreaking acrobatics and showmanship! Watch what the “overly under-qualified” judges (including DJ Mandog and SRC/Universal artist Kaze) were all too scared to talk about until now!

After the battle, Crazy Legs gives Whoo Kid some insight on over three decades of Hip Hop dance. Did Legs really battle Turbo from Breakin’? Will we ever catch him doing the Stanky Leg? How did B-boys go from stick-up kids to dancing? And what exactly did he find in Whoo Kid’s wallet?

Find out these answers and more in this
RadioPlanet.tv exclusive, directed by noneother than DanTheMan!

Chanes Blog (Forging Relationships, Real Talk, Technical Difficulties)

Real Talk

What's good everyone, I hope all is well. I went back to my hood where I raised and it brought back how real music and being successful is to me. Not one person I ran into was working. Its crazy. I mean they are actively looking, but they haven't found anything yet. My best homie is about to do ten years in prison for an attempted murder charge and the economy in the hood is rising. Not only is rent high but the neighborhood is evolving and the people aren't. When this imbalance exists, its brings on hardship which will lead to desperation and criminal activities as well. People are going to get by somehow. I get stopped frequently whether it be to question my am I still doing music or for the print ads i have been on as well. It feels good cause maybe I am that spark of hope that can make a difference in my hood. Maybe others will regain their focus and go harder than they have been as well. I know things will get better. But I'm still faced with that inevitable question-WHEN? Really we can only answer that question when we each hold ourselves accountable for our actions and what can become of them. I felt like dropping some shit on yall. I hope these words affect you in a positive way.

Forging relationships

What's good everyone? I hope all is well! This blog is about not burning bridges and forging relationships which is very important in the music business. As a result I have another album being released on Itunes called CHANEMUSICK. Look for that late July. Shameless plug, I know......lol. But anyway, I also have more blogs, interviews, placements and projects coming up as well because I network and meet people who introduce me to other people. That's how it works really. You have to be "in the know" nowadays. That keeps you relevant and not only that it builds healthy relationships as well. Nobody wants to work with a dickhead. I am humble yet consistent as far as how I approach things. I get it done because this is what I want my career to be. Soon I will be committed contractually, but the work I put in as an independent artist is so rewarding because I know my grass roots efforts lead to the deal. Just a lil insight for you. Some food for thought ya know. CHANES! Oh yeah look for that Shadyville Dj mixtape called InterCHANESable, coming to a download site near you. Po you already know, you got that!

Technical Difficulties

What's good everyone? Yeah as always I must keep it funky and let you know what's really good in the pursuit of getting my dreams out. I had my producer come thru to the crib today so we could configure the studio. The plan is to record vocals on the crib as I just get fed beats. Mixtapes, songs, features, albums, its all good. And now it would be easier cause I could record whenever I wanted to. Although my normal studio access is free of charge, sometimes think come up and I have to reschedule. Well anyway we go to set it up and I notice some of the buttons are stuck on the wireless keyboard. Because the computer is password protected, we needed that keyboard. No conventional keyboard in site . Everything is go-protools Cd, MICiprofessional, MIC guard, but no damn access to anything. Come to find out my son spilled juice and the keyboard was out of commission because of it. Terrible Two's say hello to me on Sept 14th, my sons BDAY. This is advanced warning. Lata yall......lol

The Po Report: Willy Northpole - Tha Connect (Album Review)

Past Po Politickin guest Willy Northpole promised his debut "Tha Connect" would be a classic album. While the verdict is still out on whether it's a classic album or not, Willy's debut album is a very solid album. Lead by tracks "Body Marked Up", "Hood Dreamer", "Feeling Alright", "#1 Side Chick", and "Vegas Lights", Willy's debut album shows lots of versatility and room for growth as a artist. Willy has nice flow and good charisma on the mic. I am excited to see what's next for Willy Northpole as this release was a solid introduction into the rap game.

Rating (1-5 Scale): 4 Stars

KRS-ONE & Buckshot prep new collaborative album "Survival Skills"

After making their indelible marks on the game luminaries KRS-One and Buckshot, arguably two of the games most prolific emcees, will link up to give fans a collaborative album entitled Survival Skills. The project will be released on Duck Down Records, September 15,th while the duo will be featured on The Rock The Bells tour this Summer.

With guests ranging from Mary J. Blige, Slug Of Atmosphere, K’NAAN, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, Melanie Fiona, Naledge of Kidz In The Hall, Sean Price, Geo of Blue Scholars, Smif N Wessun and Rock of Heltah Skeltah, “Survival Skills” represents a diverse range of topics, all while maintaining a consistent sound. The album has production from Havoc of Mobb Deep, 9th Wonder, Black Milk, ILL MIND, Coptic, Moss, Nottz, Marco Polo, and KHRYSIS!

KRS-One and Buckshot are the epitome of rap longevity and relevancy. After making his 1987 debut with Boogie Down Productions on the seminal rap classic Criminal Minded, KRS-One instantly became an icon going on to release a gang of essential works including 1988’s By All Means Necessary and 1993’s Return of the Boom Bap. Similarly when Buckshot came into the game in 1993 with Enta Da Stage as Black Moon’s front man, fans instantly took notice.

And the party never stopped, KRS-One’s 2007 collaborative album with producer Marly Marl, (“Hip Hop Lives”) was critically acclaimed and his work on “Classic,” the Kanye West, Nas and Rakim featured track celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Nike’s Air Force 1 shoe, earned the Teacher a Grammy nod. Buckshot has continued to churn-out some of the game’s most progressive projects as well, most notably his 9th Wonder-produced albums Chemistry (2005) and The Formula (2008). Couple those with the licensing deals which have landed Buck’s music on networks like ESPN and The History Channel, as well as an episode of CSI Las Vegas and it’s clear to see why the Boot Camp general has remained one of the game’s most influential.

Artist Spotlight: Team AnR

Team Anticipate and Respect (Team A&R), is a Hip-Hop group founded on the belief that by spreading love it will be received. The group consists of three members: Liquid, Nyce-Franklyn, and Chizz out of the Brockton/Boston area. The Hip-Hop trio in their late teens have the hunger the group possessed when they first started off back in '01/'02 and is still evident in their music today. The group contains witty and versatile subject matter with a track-list varying from commercial songs like "Rock With Me" (2009) to the more gritty songs such as "Comfortable" (Due later in 2009). Check them out at www.myspace.com/teamanr

Po: Thanks for stopping by Po Politickin. For our first question, can you tell the listeners a little bit about yourselves? Is it TEAM AnR or TEAM A&R? What does TEAM AnR stand for?

Team AnR: Team Anticipate n’ Respect (Team AnR), is a Hip Hop group out of Boston, MA on a mission to make real music. The group name has a double meaning; we anticipate what’s around us, and respect it for what it is and what it can be. In return, we expect people to anticipate who we are and respect our work ethic as well as the results.

Po: Did you grow up around Boston area? How was it?

Team AnR: Yes, the group as a whole grew up in and around the Boston area. Anyone from out here knows how it is – hustle hustle hustle; and that’s in any and every form.

The love out here is crazy though. People really do respect your grind, contrary to belief. Though that love doesn’t come easy, if you’re doing what you got to it will be recognized. Only thing that really needs help out here as far as artistic entrepreneurship is the resources. Compared to a couple years back more doors have opened, but there is more that can be done to help out independent artists.

Po: How would you describe your sound?

Team AnR: Our sound is pretty unique, I would say. “Rock with me” in particular, is a song that just came about and is different from anything we’ve done in the past. It incorporates Hip Hop, RnB, and Rock in a natural way. What we try to do is out-do ourselves with each song by correcting past mistakes and constantly working to take it a step higher. If that “step” higher involves fusing with another genre or collaborating with artists we don’t usually work with so be it. AnR doesn’t try to conform to a certain image. We are three artists with different backgrounds, different experiences, and therefore our styles are totally different.

Po: How would you define the word “success”?

Team AnR: Success is everything from surviving a day-to-day to getting that big check. I’m not going to sugar-coat it like money has nothing to do with it, because at the end of the day each of us have spent our bottom dollars trying to live this dream and wouldn’t mind a pay-off. On the other hand, I know success is something bigger than that; when you get that fulfilling feeling that you’ve living your dream and are in full control of your life, that’s success.

Po: What are the groups interests outside of music?

Team AnR: Outside of music, we all ball up together, party, and we just like chillin’, vibin’, and buildin’. You hear it all in our songs. And if you ever want to hear more music, just check out www.myspace.com/teamanr or www.youtube.com/liquidanr .

Po: Where do you see the groups career five years from now?

Team AnR: 5 years from now the group will be stepping off the stage of some crazy show we just put on and still doing what we do for the love of it. Unless we all pass, the group is going to do what we do regardless of a deal. We have a real passion for this, and it isn’t a question in any of our minds that we really want to do this.

Po: Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal? (Why?)

Team AnR: At this point we are looking for anything or anyone willing to work with us. I don’t really think it matters if it’s an independent label or major, we will do our thing, we just need the proper backing. Sometimes I feel like we could do it ourselves, but realistically there are a lot of channels and steps we have to take that we couldn’t do alone, yet.

Po: What advice would you give to aspiring rappers?

Team AnR: If you are serious about this game, DO NOT HALF ASS IT. You have to be on your grind and stay on your grind. You never know when opportunity is going to knock, so you have to be prepared. This isn’t an overnight thing, and when it is it doesn’t last, so like any other work you do – expect to get what you put in.

Po: Once again, thanks for stopping by Po Politickin. Any last words for the readers?

Team AnR: We want to thank everyone at Po Politickin for this opportunity to be heard and give a couple shout outs to: Mr. Wizard Records, the Team AnR family, everyone who has been supporting us, and much love to everyone continually doing what they do. The money is there we just gotta get it!
