Chaneblog: New Style
What's good everyone? This blog is about what's to come. A new year is about to upon on us, and that means what we did the year before, can't be done again. Its time to grind even harder. For me, that means more studio time. And yeah I finally pieced together my own set up to record all my mixtapes myself. And it also means being a better father and a fiance as well. All those things will make me a better person in general, and at the end of the day, that's what its all about for me. Everything else will fall in place God willing. The Earthquake single will be digitally distributed by Island/Def Jam in January 2010, so that's definitely a good look. In addition to that, I will also be releasing three albums in 2010 as well in addition to the mixtapes I didn't get a chance to complete this year as well. So Po you already know, I got u homie!!!! So yeah I'm starting things off with a bang. I also have a track that will be accompanied with a video and I'm sure that will stir things up a bit as well. Chaneblog: No more Mr. Nice Guy
What's good everyone? I hope all is well. This blog is about the direction I'm heading in with my music. My material is always conscience based which I am very proud of because I believe you must say something important when given this huge platform to express yourself. I am about to release some material that will most likely stir up some controversely in addition to make some heads take notice. Hiphop started out based on competition. The media and sensationalists have turned that into "beef", and have huge amounts of money off of it. There is nothing wrong with a lil friendly fire. It keeps you on top of your game and sharpens your skills as well. Some people are going to be tite......lol. My roots started off as a battle rapper n e wayz. I can make a pop record and that's only a record that's popular. You have know the business in order to be able to navigate thru it successfully and make profit. Chaneblog: Obstacles
What's good? I hope all is well with everyone. Right now I'm about to embark on a recording frenzy after a good hiatus. Luckily I was able to do videos to keep visible to my supporters and the industry as well. Still playing the waiting game with the labels but nevertheless, I'm still on my grind ya know. My manager told me obstacles are the steps opportunity and I really listened to those words and I live by them. He's exactly right. Eventually the hard work and effort I put into doing music will pay off. Imma keep grinding, doing me ya know. A lot of times it seems like there is a dark cloud over my head, but the sun always shines at the nd of the day. Positive thinking and surrounding myself with the right folks has helped me get thru what seemed like some impoosible missions. My family is doing great and I have my health and strength and that alone is a blessing from God. I know I will be successfull as long as I keep my eyes on the prize. You should do the same. When you fall into a depressed state about whatever your particuar issues may be, it takes away from yer focus and goals. We will have bad days, but the key is making sure you have more good than bad. We may make some mistakes, we just try not to make a hundred of them ya know. I have gotten pretty far in regards to getting my music noticed, and its showing now I am starting to people I grew up with hating. One would think it would be the opposite and have people who don't know you hating, but life can be funny like that. Hate is an emotion that is fueled by lack of ambition towards acheiving your own goals, no matter big or small they may be. However, on the reverse of that, it also increases the momentum of those you are hating on. Its the cousin of ENVY, somebody told me and they're right. They wish they could be in your shoes. David Blake, better known to many by his stage name, Stones was born July 31st 1988 in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York. Stones is the cousin of Kenyatta Blake aka Buckshot who is a fellow Brooklyn emcee and Co-CEO of the extremely successful independent hip hop label, Duck Down Records. Stones has many monikers/ aliases such as, S.t., S.t.ones (Stack Them Ones), Rollin Stones, David Blake The Great, The Ressurection of Perfection, S.t. The Legend Before The Legacy and many more. Stones credits his extensive list of "a.k.a.'s" to Wu Tang who he is a big fan of and is known across the globe for having many aliases.
Rapping was a hobby Stones claims to have picked up from watching the Black moon frontman, Buckshot as well as many other emcees from Hip hop's "Golden era". “I use to just sit down and listen to Wu-Tang; particularly Meth all day to study how he would put words together and then formulate my own rhymes with that same structure until I got down the basics and started to develop my own style" sais Stones. When asked about Buckshot's influence on his career choice Stones had this to say, "Buck was the one that let me know it was real because I use to think rappers were some kind of super human’s beamed down from the sky [laughs] but, he was someone I actually saw in the flesh often and saw on T.V. too so that made me believe that I could do it too".
In 2006 Stones released his first mixtape entitled, “The new stone age” which was reportedly recieved well by critics but, unfortunately did not circulate too far outside of the tri-state area due to lack of promotion. However, since it's release in 2006 revamped versions of tracks featured on the original mixtape such as, "Get wit it" featuring Smoothe da Hustler and the remix to "BK rap" which features a "primo-like" intro that was mixed by Stones himself has recieved moderate success on numerous blogs and podcasts.
In 2009 Stones signed with the powerful Long Island, New York based Hip hop management company, Gallic Wars Mixtapes who boasts a diverse roster which features London based Pop/Hip hop group, Fresh as Tommi along with strong affiliations with industry insiders like Black Hand Entertainment and Former G-Unit A&R Sha Money XXL. Since his signing in January of '09 Stones has either been featured on or hosted every Gallic Wars mixtape released and speaks very highly of the company, often shoutin his new team out in and between verses. Stones and Gallic Wars has also announced they will be releasing the first installment to his highly anticipated mixtape series, "The Steppin Stone" in the fourth quarter of 2009. Shortly after signing with Gallic Wars Stones launched his official blog, "Stones Muzik" (www.stonesmuzik.com) which not only provides a platform for his music, videos and more but also showcases music and updates from all over the industry that Stones happens to be particularly fond of and wishes to share with his diverse audience of music lovers.

Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program Celebrates Success, Screens Over 1,000 Men in L.A.
Los Angeles - When Dr. Bill J. Releford decided to positively impact the health and well being of African American men, he realized it was an extraordinary vision. Dr. Releford, his staff and over 230 volunteers demonstrated that real health care reform begins at home with the recent success of the Los Angeles Initiative of the Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program, (BBHOP). Targeting over 100 barbershops throughout Los Angeles County, Riverside County and the High Desert communities, the event took place on a recent Saturday in November."We have to begin to be more responsible for our own health. Relying solely on policy-makers to keep us healthy may not be a wise move. Real health reform beings in your house and not the White House," says Dr. Releford, a podiatric surgeon with over 20 years of preventing diabetes related amputations in high risk populations around the world, and the founder of The Diabetic Amputation Prevention (DAP) Foundation.
Compared to the general public, more African American men die prematurely from preventable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. As a result, African American men have the lowest life expectancy of any group in the U.S. Dr. Releford keenly understood that in order to effectively address health care disparities in African American men he would have to go into black-owned barbershops. Since its inception in December 2007, the program has screened over 10,000 men in over 23 cities and 230 barbershops. Ultimately, the goal is to screen over 500,000 by the year 2012.
With over 1500 men screened recently in Los Angeles, the Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program impacted an audience of millions, spreading its message about the importance of health checkups as media tracked the day's event. Celebrities on hand for support for the BBHOP included national spokesperson, former Los Angeles Lakers Norm Nixon, the Whispers, Kim Coles and Montell Jordan. Event sponsors included a grant from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and support from Vasamed, MyGlucoHealth, Andis Professional Clipper Company, Luster's SCurl Products, The County of Los Angeles, Sanofi Aventis, Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, UCLA Health System, KJLH, L.A.Care Health Plan, Novo Nordisk, along with volunteers partnerships from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., 100 Strong Black Men of Long Beach, Healthy Heritage Movement, Inc., United Nurses Association, and Kaiser Permanente Association of African American Professionals.
Founded by Dr. Bill J. Releford, D.P.M. the Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program seeks to empower African American men to better understand cardiovascular diseases and how to manage and prevent its complications. The program has a three prong strategy to its success: SCREEN, EDUCATE and REFER to the appropriate health care provider. The Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program has effectively addressed the health concerns of African American men in nearly 230 black owned barbershops around the country since December 2007. How was it growing up in Brooklyn?
It was great. I actually miss being a youngster running around here. It made me the man I am today.
How would you describe your sound?
I would call it authentic. Most of the shit we hear nowadays is watered down bullshit, and my music defies that. It’s real music, that real people can relate to. I rap for the regular people out there which make up 99% of the world. I don’t rap for fantasy like most these other rappers. I want the listener t be able to relate to the words in each track.
How would you define the word “success”?
You say success, I answer "Happiness". Now getting there is another story. For me it would be to have as many ears as possible hear me. I want ears!!! I want the biggest megaphone on earth and to scream into it so the whole world could hear my voice. That's success. That would make me "happy"
What are your interest outside of music?
Football, beer, and chicks.
Where do you see your career five years from now?
Top 10 billboard with 15 dime chicks feeding me grapes on an isand somewhere. LOL. Who the fuck knows, I'm just tryin’ to live till tomorrow homey.

What advice would you give to aspiring rappers?
Find something else to do. Unless your ready to give your whole life to something, be lied to, have your ideas stripped and robbed, and then STILL END UP WITH NOTHING. If you're cool with that then keep tryin to make it in the game, lol. REAL TALK

Chaneblog: Reinventing Yourself
What's good everyone? I hope all is well. This blog is about staying ahead of the game, so you never have to play catch up. A lot of dudes in my hood say that I sound younger than I am. My age really is irrelevant because its just a number really. But basically its about listening to what's going on and putting your own twist on things creating a new way to look at things. A different perspective kinda. Don't get me wrong, I do listen to the radio from time to time just to get the climate of what's going on now. That's keeping up with the times. Also I isolate myself when I write to keep things fresh as well. Its about reinventing yourself. Sometimes that can kill you though, if what you started was based on a gimmick. Take for instance Nelly. He came at KRS-ONE sideways and his last project did virtually nothing. KRS-One is on several projects including his own as well as a collaborative effort with BuckShot. Biggup Brooklyn! He never started out as a gimmicky emcee and he has proved that he will be here for a long while. He's an emcee and not to mention a noted public speaker that gets good money for talking to students in college as well. Nelly tried to switch up the flow and do songs with Fergie and things didn't pan out. Nelly is by far wealthy, but nothing beats selling more records, the roar of the crowd, and also being well noted for what you do. We all know Nelly is no KRS-ONE, but he is a businessman. He has capitalized off of the Apple Bottoms clothing line, and even became a model for Sean John clothing. So in that right he did reinvent himself my making his body an asset that can be capitalized off of as well. I plan on making records that are diverse with as many artists as I can without compromising who I am. I am the new wave artist that will be combining a lil of the new, with a lil bit of what's been done before. A mesh of this music we all love called HipHop. Until next time people. Juelz Santana has lived a charm life by hip-hop terms. He came up under the tutelage of Cam’ron and Jim Jones, signed his first album deal with Def Jam records and has sold almost 2 million albums in total.But all isn’t perfect in the wide world of Juelz Santana. Over the last year and half he’s gone through enough drama to make a lesser emcee fold it up and head home. Internet rumors of turmoil in his crew, Cam’ron claiming to have sold his contract and shake-ups at his label are some of the drama that has followed Juelz like twitter.
But Juelz isn’t your average the artists. A businessman in his own right, he’s taking all the rumors and side talk in stride. He’s currently preparing his third album “Born to Loose, Bred to Win” Juelz talks about his new album, his realtionship with his former crew and having Chris Brown on his new single
Tell me about the new album “Born to Loose, Bread to Win”
Juelz Santana: I’m gearing up. I’m getting warmed up right now. “Born to Loose, Bred to Win” will be the album. We‘re about to shoot the video for “Back to the Crib” I got another record called, “Mixing up the Medicine”. I got an amazing record with Lil Wayne.
I’m not going to do the drop the single and come out in 2 months thing. That’s what the label has to understand. I just ready to go. I just did a record for Banks album. I’m going to be on peoples ass. I just did a record for Mariah. I’m about to be on every single. Watch. I’m on niggas ass right now.
When you first broke on the scene you did it through mixtapes. Are you going to hit the underground again with another mixtape?
I got “The Reagan Era” which is the mixtape. I feel like my mixtape is going to be like an album. I’m probably going to drop 2 mixtapes before I drop the official album. I’m all about the feeling. I feel like as long as I aint out the loop and I aint gone to the point where you’re not hearing nothing from me, then I’m good. I’m going drop the album when its right. I just did a record with Lloyd Banks that’s for his album. I just did some stuff for Mariah Carey. You’re about to hear me on everything in a minute.
Cam’ron was talking about selling your contract and how the Dipset is over. What’s good with you and Cam?
Juelz Santana: I have no problem with Cam. Cam gave me the chance of a lifetime. He brought me into the game and I’ll never take that away from him. But as much as he’s did for me, I’ve over-paid my dues. I know it was love when it was genuine. I wish Cam the best and deep down I know he wishes me the best. I don’t have a sour taste in my mouth about it. We’re still Dipset for life.
Talk about your new single with Chris Brown?
Juelz Santana: Chris is my dude. He’s always been my man despite whatever he’s gone through. I had got a beat from Polow (the Don) and it had a reference of a hook on it. And soon as I heard it I heard Chris on it. And like I said before, despite whatever he’s been through before hand, it never effected my decision. This is my dude and I was gonna reach out to my dude. We shot out to Orlando the next day and we just put it down
That was actually my next question. Was it hard getting the feature passed through Def Jam?
Juelz Santana: I aint going front there were a couple of different people who had opinions. But at the end of the day, I’m my own boss. I’m a partner with Def Jam. LA Reid respects me. My project has nothing to do with anybody else’s project so at the end of the day I’m going do what has to be done. What happened or didn’t happened, it didn’t matter. I informed people in the building that I was going make the move. And I don’t mean it in now certain way when I say, ‘it is what it is” If another artists that’s up there wanted to make a move, but they couldn’t say nothing. I know Rhianna is a Def Jam artists. At the end of the day, this is how I feed my family. It cant be about holding grudges. If so, no one would work with anyone in the industry. There’s always going to be somebody who’s not going to like someone. Someone has to be that person who bridges the gap.

Things have changed. The music industry has moved more towards new media as traditional methods seem to be fading away. Bloggers have become as influential as Dj’s and A&R’s and fans, artists and label execs alike are starting to stand up and pay attention to the power of the internet.Very few know how to really navigate the information super high-way like founder of Invisible Man Media, Mehka. The music editor of wordonthestreetsmag.com, Mehka has been a presence on the internet since 2003.
“In 03 I started my own website called lastwordonline.com. Back then, there we’re a lot of websites popping up but only a few of them were actually good. I hope lastwordonline.com was one of the few that were good,” jokes Mehka
Initially starting lastwordonline as a way to get his work known to the hip-hop world, it turned into something different as time went on. “At first, I used it like a monthly resume. My goal was to get into XXL and the Source, but I didn’t know how to get their attention. So I started to go get my own stories, interview artists and post them online. Before you knew it, I started getting attention from labels and artists, as well as magazines.”
Featuring hip-hop heavyweights like The Lox, Trina, Jim Jones, B.G., and more, Mehka began to build a reliable network of industry contacts. Before he knew it, he was one of the go to journalists in hip-hop. He would go on to pen stories for XXL, Slam, The Connex List, Rolling Out newspaper and has worked on projects for The Dirty Awards and Hip-Hop Film Festival.
But like everything else in hip-hop, evolving with the culture was necessary. “Now, everyone is online so its harder to get your work seen as a writer. Its like everyone has a blog. I realized that I had to do something else if I really wanted to stay in the industry.
In comes Invisible Man Media. Using his expertise in the new media he decided to build a publicity and marketing company that could assist labels major and indie labels build their buzz and brand their names and products using the internet.
“I realized that most labels and artists don’t really know how to use the internet. Everything is geared towards the internet right now so to not know how to use it or manipulate it for your benefit can slow down your growth.”

What's good everyone? I hope all is well! I have been having some technical difficulties lately, but things are back on track. I misplaced my phone. My blackberry as a matter of fact. I'm sorry to say that the phone is my lifeline, but it is. I lost all my contacts, thank God my information was backed up cause you never know.
