Po: Thanks for stopping by Po Politickin. For our first question, can you tell the listeners a little bit about yourself?

Octavian: First I want to say I appreciate the opportunity to be featured on your blog and it is a pleasure. I am 22 years-old, currently a college student at Bridgewater State College in Mass. I'm from Brockton, MA. I have been in the game now 4 1/2 years. I have collabed with some of the industries most prolific artists for my debut mixtape "Steet Credentialz Volume 1: Industry Status". I have collabed with Young Noble from Tupac's "Tha Outlawz", one of hip hops elite female MC's "Lady Luck", Former D-Block member J-Hood, and Mixtape Guru who is making noise all across the world "Statik Selektah" who hosted the mixtape. I am pushing my debut single "Hood Chick" Feat. up and coming R&B sensation Kallil. We are due to shoot the music video for "Hood Chick" May 1st and will be released mid-May. Bascically my grind, my hustle, my ambition, and my drive is second to none!!!

Po: How was it growing up in Brockton?

Octavian: Growing up in Brockton was rough for me. You know growing up with 3 other brothers and only my mom dukes. That sh*t was a reality check! Real Talk! We had to struggle for whatever we needed, I had no time for fun. I didn't grow up the typical way. At a young age i was taught the streets. My uncles bread it into me. They taught me young, beginning at age six. But, despite the hardships and turmoil I was able to prevail. I took it upon myself to veer away from that life style and yearned for better, not only for myself but for my family as well. So, while learning the streets, living that life, playing that role... behind closed doors I was reading, doing my homework, studying! Eventually I was introduced to Brockton High School Football and life from there on out wasn't too bad. I took it one day at a time. Graduated in the top of my class and now I am here with you doing this interview pushing my record "Hood Chick" to mainstream radio searching for a distribution deal.

Po: How would you describe your sound?

Octavian: My sound is original, raw, real, and controversial! I have no limits, no boundaries! I will spit about anything; the streets, politics, love, hate, hardships, struggles, commercial, anything. I am universal in that sense. i have influences from hip hop's greats from Tupac, Big Pun, Nas, Biggie, Big L, LL Cool J, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Run DMC, and the list continues. I ahve developed my own style, my own swag, and understand who I am as a young man, i have found myself. My sound is just me, feel me?

Po: How would you define the word “success”?

Octavian: For me the defintion of success is very simple, success is "doing what you set out to do and accomplishing your goals no matter how big or small." You can have success even if you just set a goal to be able to provide dinner for your children and you accomplish that goal. Success is something everyone should experience whether it be internal, personal, or infamous.

Po: What are your interest outside of music?

Octavian: Outside of music I have many interests. I love sports. As we speak I am currently a College football player for the Bridgewater State Bears. I am very interested in turning my entertainment company, "Viciouz Society Entertainment", into a major corporation. I am also intersted in starting communtiy service outreach programs as well as a college scholarships for those financially incapable for paying for tuition.

Po: Where do you see your career five years from now?

Octavian: 5 years from now if I'm not a major figure in the Entertainment Industry or Music Industry, I will take my degree and attain a government positition out here in Mass, coach high school or college football, provide for my family, and be extremely active in the community. No matter which path i will not fail!!!

Po: Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal? (Why?)

Octavian: Currently I am looking for a joint venture deal with a major label like Universal, Koch, Def Jam, etc... I am seeking a joint venture deal becasue i own an entertainment company and would like to put artisits out. I would love to break artists records and get them over the hump just as DJ Addition is trying to do with me.

Po: What advice would you give to aspiring rappers?

Octavian: For all those aspiring artists if you really want this, if this is something eating you, if this is your calling... Stay focused on the task at hand. Do not try to do 50 different things at once. Keep motivated, ambitious, and driven. If at anytime you feel this path is not for you and you cannot continue take a second and evaluate yourself and if you still do not know wherer your destiny lies, this industry is not for you, focus on other things you may excel at. This industry is full of "Great White Sharks" lurking in the depths ready to tear you apart, if your not ready for the challenge failure is iminent!

Po: Thanks for stopping by Po Politickin. For our first question, can you tell the listeners a little bit about yourself?

Jemini: Thanks for having me fam. Well, my name is Jemini and I'm an indie hip hop artist from Brockton, Ma. I have a single out right now off my debut album "I Am Jem". The single is called "Bump It". Its available online for download. Radio is showing it mad love. I hope ya'll request it and support it.

Po: How was it growing up in Boston?

Jemini: I was actually born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It was real tough out there. As a youngn' I saw a lot of things a child wasn't suppose to see so when we got to Boston (specifically Brockton), the hardest thing for me was adjusting to the new environment.

Po: What's your musical background? How long have you been rapping?

Jemini: I produce music. I play the keys and I graduated from the New England Institute of Art with an Associate Degree in Audio Engineering back in 2007. Man, I've been rapping since junior high school. Since the 8th grade. Those were the good ol days.

Po: How do you describe your music to people?

Jemini: Honestly, my music is fresh hip hop. You know, that no holds barred hip hop. I'd like to think for every song that I write, there's a powerful feeling that my audience receive from it, you feel me?

Po: What are your immediate music career goals?

Jemini: I want to continue to be heard because I got something important to say. I want to make people connect with hip hop again. I'd love to keep making music for as long as God let's me man. I want to give people something new. My ultimate goal is to be successful at maintaining the raw edge in hip hop and still have a commercial appeal.

Po: What are your interests outside of music?

Jemini: Well, let's see. I'm an artist so I love drawing and painting portraits and abstract pieces. I also like playing ball and watching movies. But ever since I started making music, I haven't had the time to do anything else, honestly. We just wrapped up my first mixtape entitled "Here I Am" which is hosted by the world famous Statik Selektah. Fat shouts to Statik for holding it down. The mixtape will be dropping first week of April. Look for it online.

Po: Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal? (Why?)

Jemini: Not really. I mean, I'm signed independently to Mr Wizard Records, which is based in Brockton, shout out to Wayne Horton, but if the right offer comes along to merge, then we merge. I am looking for distribution though for my debut album, "I Am Jem".

Po: What advice would you give to aspiring rappers?

Jemini: My main advice to ya'll is recognize that this is not a game. Its a 24/7 career. If you are truly in it, you need to be inspired, motivated, dedicated, driven, and ambitious all of the time. You cannot fall back at all because someone else is trying to reach the same goal and they're probably moving just as hard. It sounds cliche but go hard or go home and please give us something new and creative. Hip hop needs it.

First, let me qualify myself. I have spent over 40 years living by my wits on the hard streets of America’s major cities. Contrary to today’s hip hop definition of a player, (one that has sex with multiple partners); I am the textbook example of a player, (i.e. players exercise superior wit and street knowledge to manipulate people, situations and opportunities to their advantage for financial gain.) Otherwise known as Game (or big business). So, before I begin, I want to plainly state that I am an old school player with the class, style and flair of a true gentleman. I deal in absolute stark reality… THE BUTT NAKED TRUTH!

The Boston Globe reports: Nearly half of the 200 Boston teenagers interviewed for an informal poll said pop star, Rihanna was responsible for the beating she allegedly took at the hands of her boyfriend, fellow music star Chris Brown in February.

I think they’re on to something here. These kids have a more realistic view of real life as a young adult.

Everyone, from the local McDonald’s employee to the likes of Oprah, Tyra Banks, Donald Trump and Ellen has included their 2 cents. It has been said that the incident between the two pop stars stems from Chris Brown’s alleged long term sexual involvement with his manager, 39 year old Tina Davis. According to reports, Rihanna became enraged after seeing a sexually suggestive text message from Tina Davis on Chris’ phone en route to the Grammy Awards. Rihanna then “pimp slapped” Chris while he was driving. Now, after being slapped while navigating through traffic, what would the average man, women or child’s response consist of? It’s called self defense. Crash! Bang! Zapp! Kapow! Rihanna not only disrespected Chris’ manhood, attacking him, but endangered his life as well. Keep in mind that all of this happened at the spur of the moment. This is not a dress rehearsal people, this is REAL LIFE. Come on, get off your politically correct high horses and deal with reality! Real life is what happens when no one is looking.

If everyone’s life were played out on the World Wide Web, TMZ, Oprah, Tyra, Access Hollywood, Ellen or the Dr. Phil show, real life would become extinct. We all may as well get a Hollywood or TV land script and start practicing our lines.

Chris & Rihanna did not immediately release statements regarding the incident, leaving themselves room to work it out. If left alone to their own devices, human instinct and emotions would guide them to sort it out the old fashioned way. If today’s methods of intervention, public airing and talk show host’s advice were practiced back in the day, a lot of us would never have been born. However did our grandparents and parents make it without celebrity comments and talk shows?

Furthermore, what is the real value of Ellen, Oprah, Tyra or Donald’s advice? Oprah hasn’t had a man since Moby Dick was a minnow, and I don’t think Gail has slapped her lately; Tyra couldn’t hold on to Will Smith because he said she was “too white”; Donald was unable to keep either his wife Ivana or his last hairdresser; and, Ellen is married to a woman! If the people with all of this useless advice about relationships (which they don’t have) and politically correct storybook, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm opinions would back up, these two young people will find their way. Trust me it’s been happening for thousands of years.

Puffy is the only celebrity with enough game, understanding and real life experience to offer the troubled couple any real support. Chris and Rihanna’s time spent at Sean Combs Miami home, without the prying eyes and ears of paparazzi, politically correct, ratings seekers, and groupies may very well have been their saving grace.

Now, on to Chris Brown’s legal problems as a result of his response to Rihanna’s attack. At least someone in Chris’ camp has game. If the rumors of them getting married are true, that’s good game and sound legal advice. It’s my understanding that Chris’ lawyers have negotiated a plea bargain to a misdemeanor for him. Of course, based upon the extent of the testimony in the case a judge is not bound by such agreement. Thus, if the judge believes a felony is warranted he/she can refuse to accept the plea and proceed with felony prosecution.

I have a question at this juncture. When will Rihanna be arrested and tried for hitting Chris Brown? Where are all of the domestic violence advocates, critics and talk show hosts on that issue?? No ratings value on that subject, huh?

So, by marrying Rihanna Chris will be effectively preventing her from being subpoenaed to testify in his “assault” case. This move eliminates the possibility of his misdemeanor plea being rejected and saves him from becoming a convicted felon.
